Dogs enjoy tracking, it’s team exercise for everyone.
We are a small group, and one trial track can need up to four helpers, so tracking people must be prepared to help each other.
To set tracks we use 500mm to 1 meter of brightly coloured ribbons. We put these ribbons on the trees so that we know where we are going.
Tracking Dogs use 10 meter leads and Tracking Harnesses.
To get started you will need a reward for the dog – something the dog really wants (small pieces of food), a soft collar, a 2-3 meter lead and four old socks with your scent on them.
Dogs must be on lead at all times in a State Forest.

Tracking Trials 8th August & 22nd August 2010
For our first trial on the 8th August the weather condition was excellent for a tracking trial but we only managed to get one pass out of eight entries. The entry which did pass was Carol Moeser and her dog Tallan from Sydney, they passed on their TDX6 with a Very Good and gained their TDX Title. A part from the poor trial result it still was great day and the trial run excellent thanks to Mary Greenwood as our Chief Steward, Cynthia Briggs was the Rep and Ineke De Witt was the Judge. Ineke done an excellent job on Judging but the dogs just didn’t get it right on the day.
The 22nd August trial what a day for results nine entries and Eight passes. The weather was the same on the 8th August but the dogs did get it right on the day. I have never seen in Eighteen years of tracking such a successful trial result.

What a result a TD & TDX Title both with an Excellent pass. Moira and I have now gained our Tracking Championships.
Not many Judges like more than six dogs in a tracking trial but Tiki Friezer welcome nine entries. Mary Greenwood as always did an excellent job on both trials as chief steward and Keith Payne was our Rep the 22nd.
I would like to thank the steward for both trials for their excellent job without steward no trial.
I also like to thank everyone who has been involved in tracking for 2010 for their excellent job and look forward for 2011 tracking season.
Yours truly,
Paul Hill

Port Stephens All Breeds & Obedience Canine Club Inc Tracking Trial - 13th September 2009
No Dog passed at the Trial the weather was fine but hot.
My Championship track was first track to run Pj failed on the fifth corner which was the second greater than 90 degree corner then he tracked to the end of the track very well. Cynthia & Robbie was the second track out Robbie also failed a corner. Richard & Tzar was the last track out and I was the steward and tracklayer for them. Tzar Track very well but thought the decoy Mary Greenwood was a better person to follow.
It’s the end of the tracking season for this year and I would like to thank everyone how was involved for the excellent job in stewarding and other jobs with the friendly attitude it made the trials easy to run. I will be looking forward for next year tracking season and new beginners in tracking.
